Jacob’s murals start well before he picks up a paintbrush or shakes a can. At the heart of every mural is a deep dive into the history of the subject which involves consulting local historians, community members and stakeholders.
It’s this meticulous research that helps Jacob pick the perfect scene to pay tribute to the people & stories he’s about to bring to life. This also extends to helping him choose the perfect canvas. Which could be a wall, a congregated iron shed in the bush or anything in between. After this important consultation process, Jacob sets out to not just paint his subject but to capture and convey their essence as authentically as he can. Staying true to history is his most important guiding principle.
Jacob takes this approach with his murals because he wants the viewer to connect with the story behind the art. To allow themselves to be whisked back in time and appreciate the snapshot that he was able to recreate through old photos and stories.
These historical murals are often painted in monochrome to create a sense of timelessness and nostalgia. Further immersing the viewer in the experience.
